The Behler Chelonian Center has had an extremely productive year hatching turtles and tortoises thus far.
The Turtle Conservancy’s Behler Chelonian Center is the premiere facility for breeding Critically Endangered turtles and tortoises in the United States. The Behler Chelonian Center had a banner year in 2012.
Turtles and tortoises have been roaming the planet for 200 million years, but now many of them are endangered by poachers who can sell some animals for as much as $60,000. Lesley Stahl reports from Madagascar.
