Blanding’s Turtle Conservation in Massachusetts

Last week Turtle Conservancy Chief Scientist Ross Kiester accompanied Dr. Liz Willey, post-doctoral research associate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, on her fieldwork monitoring the status of Blanding’s Turtle in eastern Massachusetts.

Baly Bay Field Report

There are only a few hundred adult Ploughshare Tortoises left in the wild, occupying a tiny geographic area less than 1/10th the size of Manhattan. These minuscule numbers and the intense demand from the illegal wildlife trade, make the Ploughshare the most endangered tortoise in the world. Turtle Conservancy sponsored PhD student, Andrea Currylow, recently visited the Baly Bay region of Madagascar to study and assess the remaining wild Ploughshare Tortoises.

TC Moves to Support Tortoise Conservation in South Africa

Turtle Conservancy’s Senior Conservation Scientist, James Juvik, recently visited Namibia and South Africa, the region of the world with the greatest tortoise diversity (with at least 14 different species).

Golden Coin Turtles Sent Home to Hong Kong

Last week, five Critically Endangered Golden Coin Turtles made their way from the Turtle Conservancy’s renowned captive-breeding facility in California to the species’ native Hong Kong.
